Délice Maritime for an Alfresco Meal

May 2nd in Montréal was absolutely splendid! Hot and sunny, and though perhaps a little too humid, I was thrilled!

What better way to celebrate this sign of summer [and the launch of this, my new blog!] than a splendid delight straight from the Maritimes! We had been informed the fresh lobsters were being shipped in to one of our local supermarkets, and decided an alfresco meal outside would be a perfect way to celebrate the day. A small word of advice here: these usually fly off the shelves, so you’d best go early in the day to buy them!

Fresh lobster, perfect for an alfresco meal!

These were huge beauties, about a kilo apiece [a bit over 2lb each], and perfectly cooked: in salted water and just long enough to produce a delicate, moist meat. Occasionally, lobsters are not that full, but the flesh in these was plump and plentiful! What a treat :-)

When lobster is this fresh and this good, you don’t want to mask its gorgeous flavour! So I served it very simply with a mayonnaise I had flavoured with a little hot smoked Spanish paprika, and a small side salad.

For the salad I used fresh baby spinach, added some sliced fresh mushrooms, a little vinaigrette made with 3 parts extra virgin olive oil and 1 part aged balsamic vinegar, sea salt, and freshly ground pepper. After gently tossing the ingredients, I spooned some ruby-coloured, jewel-like, pomegranate seeds on top. Beautiful and simple!

We opened a bottle of crisp sparkling wine to drink with it, which was a perfect compliment! The best part [besides the delicious fresh lobster of course!] is that it only took about 10 minutes to prepare :-)

    • Hi Sis! Yes, it was so delicious! The first fresh lobster of the season :-> Wish you and Ron could have been here with us that evening!

Let me know what great recipes you’re preparing these days! Any cool ideas for the Bar-B-Q, since the season is now here?!
